About Lilly Handcrafted
I love animation. I love the evolution and journey of my relationship to it. I love the intimacy that comes along with it, our willing suspension of disbelief joining in tandem with our desire to see into another world of possibilities and ideas. I love my ability to melt into a story I have never heard before, and one that I have seen a hundred times over. I love that learning the technicalities of animation is both starkly different and exactly like magic: when you learn a magician’s tricks, it is no longer magical. From that moment on, you can only see how that magician is a performing phony. Their performance is fake, rehearsed; it is trickery. You may still be impressed with their sleight of hand, with their creativity, but you will never be able to unlearn the truth, and therefore, you will never be able to experience the thrill of magic again. With animation, I can comb through second by second, moment by moment, frame by frame, and only find admiration and fascination with how the artists chose to tackle their visuals. It becomes all the more magical when I learn just how they did it, because to me, it’s magical that I can achieve the same thing. It never becomes any less exciting to see my characters come to life. The love for this craft never fades; it only strengthens, and that is what true magic is all about.
